Some females are referred to as "Sir" in the military.

Having spent six years in the US Navy, I can say it's tradition to address ensigns and lieutenants with Mister.

If it doesn't get in this time it might another, a Trek film will inevitably end up in there at some point given Trek's impact over tha last 40 years. TWOK would be a very good choice when they do.
