As has been posted in another topic is that TREK XI does in fact start in the TNG era and goes back to a 23rd century alternate universe related to the one we see in "Yesterday's Enterprise".

Has to be a sequel to revive interest but i would have made sure Kirk came back from the dead or something like that.

The idea of a prequel has merits, as well as moving on to
the 25th century. The latter would require some mind-numbing special effects, while the former would be more in reach with our present technology. The vision of this director may create an experience that may leave us eager for more. I enjoyed "Alias", which has only appeared in Japan for rental up to season three, but it has been an exciting ride! |

So? That does not mean they're moving ahead in the timeline to tell a 25th-century story. It's only sort of a plot device and does not require any previously established TNG-era canon. The main story will be set in the 23rd century, establishing *new* canon, if you will. My point stands- it is a new start.
Don't you think? |

I'd probably do the same, but i'd have a lot more people angry with me about the canon... lol

I would leave motion pictures aside entirely and focus on DVD and TV.
There are many options for the franchise to take. The first thing I would do is produce a TOS Movie Era CGI animated show. Keep that going for as long as possible to bring some stability to Star Trek on TV. |

I would have gone with a completely different ship/crew/etc....no sense retreading on what was done right the first time. I wouldnt mind seeing a movie from the point of view of one of the Alien races we've seen over the years, though I see nothing wrong with having a primarily human crew either...something set post NEM. There are sci-fi movies put out all the time that dont have previously established stories/characters and they do just fine in the theaters...so why wouldnt that work here?
