Oh, hey! The topic! Thank you Horatio for addressing it...

Flashbacks: Academy-Kirk remembering his younger self seeing the executions? Dialogue: Kirk telling Spock about why he entered the Academy, to prevent facism to occur again?
That's an excellent idea!

Suppose Orci and Kurtzman remember "The Conscience of the King" (well if they know "Balance of Terror", they should also know this episode; Shakespeare served the franchise always very well) and even try to put Kirk's experience into this movie. How?
Flashbacks: Academy-Kirk remembering his younger self seeing the executions? Dialogue: Kirk telling Spock about why he entered the Academy, to prevent facism to occur again? Or even some in-joke reference to Khan via Kodos' eugenic ideas ?
It is possible if they really want it and it would be great but it would demand at least 2-3 minutes and even more when it is part of Kirk's development.
And I doubt they show us "three different Kirks": the young Iowa-Kirk, his decision after Tarsus IV to join the Academy where he became the intellectual Kirk, and then his change to the space-Kirk (because he realizes that he can't go by the book in space?). If they did, it would be great drama, less space battles, less sci-fi-gadgetery, less techno-babble, more of the stuff why so many people love TOS (and TNG if I might say so).
And about screentime: the other 5 crewmembers also have to be acknowledged and two other star fleet captains have to be introduced, Nero, etc. ...
They could address all "three different Kirks" pretty quickly if they choose. Clever writing can easily show his early character development over the course of a few minutes.

Remember too...as much as we would like to see the bridge crew have all of their stories explored in depth, the main focus will almost always be on the big 3 (Kirk, Spock, McCoy). And since we know there are many different actors playing Kirk and Spock in the movie, and only one for McCoy, we have to assume that their background stories are getting the main spotlight.

I have to say that what I'm reading at TrekMovie makes me think Scotty is being elevated to "big 4" status... not that I object...I suspect Pegg is just so good that they know he's integral to the success of the movie....

Well I hope we see a little bit of Bones too and they don't get lost with showing little Jimmyboy in Iowa and little pointy ear playing with his sehlat. Most important is of course how Kirk befriends the two.
I would say that Scotty was already "big 4" in TOS times.

Indulging in a little fantasy here... (*Grin*)

I earlier mentioned my 'Spock' scenario, were I writing this film: here's my 'Kirk' scenario...

A VERY young Jimmy Kirk, sitting in a barn in Iowa, playing with a toy. He hears a strange sound, and looks out the barn door - to see people being rounded up. As you hear a PA listing the dictates of Kodos, the camera pans to a somewhat older Jim Kirk, peering over the edge of a roof-top. He continues watching; until the PA suddenly starts whooping the familiar 'Red Alert' sound, and Kirk starts screaming 'No!' over and over again. The camera pans from Kirk's face - to reveal the bridge of the USS Farragut. As Kirk continues screaming, the camera shows the vampiric cloud killing the Farragut's captain - then the camera pans back to Kirk, as he is 'now' (in the film), still shouting 'no'... the camera zooms in on his eyes as his shouts taper off to whimpers; his eyes close... then pop open, and the camera pulls back to show Kirk laying in bed....

Very good.

Could the toy he is playing with be a remote controlled version of the NX-01?
