Great tips man. From one geek to another, I recently reinstalled my wifes computer with just vista not using the system restore that the manufacturer provided and found a remarked increase in performance.

Agreed.. OEM install disks have so much bundeled garbage on them that it chokes a computer right out of the box.. A clean install of the Operating system is recommended and then add only the things YOU want on the computer. Using the OEM restore option is not recommended.

Now the Windows features System Restore ... System Restore is only necessary when you install a new program or a program / windows update.. once the system shows to be stable without any ill effects or random crashing (about 5 to 7 days) turn the System Restore off to free Hard Drive space and increase system performance...

This is applicable to both XP and Vista users.
