Hmmmm Spock is a great character but he doesn't quite qualify here because at last report he wasn't dead. McCoy I might be able to work assuming he passed on finally... (Great thing about written works and the power of Q is that McCoy and Kirk could return in their prime as seen in the five year mission.)

Part of the attraction in using Kirk as Captain would be the difference in how officers of different times would react to him. Take for example either Seto Jaksa or Lt. Hawk at Navigation and Lee Kelso at Helm... Hawk might be inclined to look at Kirk through the lenses of someone seeing a legend while to Lee Kelso "That's just the Captain!" And to Trip Tucker... Well at first he wouldn't have any reason to think anything special about Kirk at all now...

The Enterprise C as much as the B is a wonderfully mysterious ship to me and something about her appeals...

As to the crew.... I've read that the Ambassador class carried a crew of 700 so that's plenty of room for more familiar faces to appear...

Lt. Galloway and Lt. Stadi
Dr. Carter...
Others anyone?

Now that would play with Kirk's head!

Of course Mitchell couldn't even spell Kirk's name right..... "James R. Kirk" ?

One thing is for certain... No "Ship's Counselor". McCoy, Phil Boyce, and heck... Guinan all did much better counseling their Captains than Troi.

Maybe it was an aspect of Gary's deteorating mental state. maybe Kirk realized for sure then that his freind was gone for good.

Maybe I am just dancing around bad writing....lol...

Or maybe it was proof that Mitchell wasn't as good a friend as he pretended to be all along? We DO get the sense that even before his change that he's a bit on the sneaky and manipulative side...

But someone once suggested that maybe that tiny mistake by the "God" was enough for Kirk to realize Mitchell wasn't infallible and thus could still be beat.

Hmm I never sensed that...until the change.

Gary himself never chose to do wrong. His perceptions/personality were forcibly changed by an exterior force (The Barrier Energy). I can see were it could be the equivlant of an alien taking over his mind, giving him unlimited power and focing him to do it's agenda, not his.

What makes me think this way, is couple of times they pump enough power into Gary to mometrairly disrupt whatever is going on, and you see the real Gary back, knowing what he's done, and powerless to stop it.

Good thoughts... I may well have to give Mitchell serious thought as navigator... He'd be in a tough spot... Especially working next to Kelso again.

Out of a crew of 700 on an Ambassador class say about fifty security plus Tac officers? Anybody want to nominate their favorite red shirts?
