Default My first RPG!

I went to a local gaming store where they taught me some ins and outs of the Star Wars roleplaying game. You know, the one with the 20-sided dice?

Someone asked me, "Why at 35 are you picking this up now?" I said that I wanted to make friends and since I love Star Wars, making friends and games, I figured "why not?".

I play Guild Wars, it's $40 per campaign, which work together, and $30 for the expansion.
Best of all, their is no monthly service fee. I have been playing since 2005...

Excelent! Good for you! I picked up pencil and paper rping in college and have run as well as participated in both d20 Star Wars and Decipher d6 Star Trek campaigns. As long as you have people to play with its great fun! The hard part is finding people to play with who can meet on a regular basis. It's much more mentally stimulating than something like a computer game, since it's essentially communal storytelling with your imagination doing a lot of the work.

Playing pretend for big kids

Good luck and I hope you enjoy it!

Things like gaming consoles and online rpg's have pushed people away from tabletop. I'm always happy when someone finds his way into it.

if I get into it, I'll reward myself with a nice set of brass dice.

Computer games can be an absolute blast, but there is NOTHING, repeat NOTHING so fun as sitting around a table with four or five of your buddies, with plenty of pop, beer (if you like it), chips and dip, and rolling dice and using your imagination to travel to places that only exist there. I did it a lot when i was a teen and young adult, and i had the time of my life doing it. Finding groups to play with now is next to impossible, there are plenty of young people playing, but none of them want to invite an old fogey like me over, they don't understand i still have the gaming spirit and that they would probably fall asleep long before i would, they just think this old man would be a wet blanket and ignore me when i say i'd like to play. It's happened to me a dozen times now whenever i hear some of them say they're getting a game together and i say i'd like to join them and they get this blank look on their faces and wait for me to leave and then continue their conversation like i was never there. I've finally stopped asking. But oh, the fond memories i have of tabletop role-playing. Ah for those good old days.
