Yupp, he got well paid for the film rights, but couldnt handle the fame. There you see what happens, when our society wants all the progress on the one hand, while crying faked tears about the prize of that progress, abusing the dramatic lifes of the victims of progress for nothing else then their sick voyeristic needs (poor birdy, who actually cares for him really?)
Good that there are still some nations on our globe who have a far healthier and natural attitude towards progress and technology:

For no reason at all, other than the fact that Big Bird was featured on Sesame Street, here's the weirdest "People In Your Neighborhood" song ever (note: Carroll Spinney, the performer of Big Bird, also performs Oscar the Grouch)
