Post Saucer Separation

I know it seems a bit passe , but I would love to have seen a TOS saucer separation. I recall it being possible from the blueprints from the 70's and Gene talked about it, but sadly was unable to make it happen until the first episode of TNG. Anyway I digress, I thought it would be a thing of beauty with current technobility , to see our new/old Enterprise perform the saucer separation in the heat of battle and then be brought back together. I hope I haven't rehashed someone else's thread, and if not what do you guys think?
