Nothing against name-dropping as an inside-joke for the fans but in the case of the antagonist of the story changing the very basics of the character is questionable. In STXI Pike was still the stern captain of the Enterprise, in FC Cochrane was still the inventor of warp drive (albeit not sober or enlightened yet ) and so on.Independent of who the villain actually is, the little we know about the story so far sounds pretty promising (and I say this as somebody who thinks very little of the writers). ![]() |

Here's an interesting idea: What if, in this universe, Ricardo Montalban wasn't REALLY Khan, but a bodyguard who took over the role to protect the REAL Khan? Our John Harriman could be the Real Deal. It makes sense too: Instead of the initial Botany Bay, another DY-100 Class ship took off as well, and without notice. The REAL Khan was supposed to meet with Montalban Khan, and when the 2 ships came within each other, they would of traveled together in a small convoy, only instead of THAT happening, the usual"Computer Malfunction" split the 2 ships apart, and the Botany Bay that we are familiar with is still drifting in deep space! The OTHER DY-100 drifts into Klingon territory, where the Klingons send the REAL Khan back to Qo'NoS and unfreeze him. Anyways, just an idea.

What has been confirmed:
1. Lots of Klingons 2. Alice Eve is Carol Marcus. 3. Cumberbatch is NOT Mitchell. |

Hmmmm.
My gut has said all along that they were going to do a new character. Same thing applies to a random name from TOS used once as a background redshirt. I think it is the best hope for a quality story, but track record is not the greatest (on the quality story line).

I know but Marion Cotillard denied she was playing who she wound up playing in TDKR.

It seems to me with the full teaser trailer out that the guy is not going to be playing anyone from the original timeline, or well at least anyone we have heard of before. Which brings me to a total nerd thought:
So who was/is John Harrison in the Original timeline? Will be interesting discussion after we learn more about JJ's John Harrison. Unless, yes, it is just all a jerk off and the guy is some fabled TOS character. (Ugh)

Hmmm...a young girl in a hospital...a sad, probably desperate family...and someone claiming they can save her...
Genetic Engineering, anyone?

Don't doubt it for a second. Genetic engineering will feature some way or another, and there's a shot somewhere of a row of cryo-stasis pod type thingys
