"The scene involves Chris Pine's Kirk and Benedict Cumberbatch's John Harrison working together, reluctantly, to board and incapacitate a ship Harrison seems to know entirely too well, liberated from his berth in the brig of the Enterprise for a suicide mission as Kirk tries to find any way to prevent the much larger, unknown ship from destroying the Enterprise. Kirk notes how "The enemy of my enemy is my friend," and even Spock's on-the-spot fact checking of that old saw can't dissuade Kirk from springing Cumberbatch in the name of a last-ditch hope of survival."

In some instances, spoiler tags are appreciated.

However, as they weren't employed.......................this may (stress, emphasize, whichever the word 'may') fit with a potential motif or arc for Kirk based around Bones' supposed final line in the 9 minute prologue, Pike's words to Kirk about the dangers of his confidence and a sneaking suspicion I have that someone may not be alive by the end of proceedings.

Someone is going to be very dead, but not Kirk or Spock.
