If it's Mitchell and he has the powers then probably physical feats wouldn't be a problem.

If it's Khan, then it can't be a line for line remake of TWOK (I think the trailer establishes that Japanese version notwithstanding) because he would have to have been discovered in a totally different way. Which speaks to a thought I had, being that if they use Khan it has to be a different story (even if some events were to perhaps play out in a way that's familiar) and that seems evident.

The interesting thing is that while it packs a spectacle it doesn't actually yet tell us anything specific although it heavily alludes to one thing that would be known to send fans crazy. In that way it's actually a damn good teaser. The full trailer on the 14th may hold more. All you have is that great portentiousness from Cumberbatch (and I tell ya this - he has the Patrick Stewart touch of being able to take even the most hammy dialogue and sell it. He'll be able to take any dialogue he's given and make it work).

Plus, Eve could be Rand.

I believe its Khan. And its definitely not a line for line remake of either Space Seed or TWOK.
There's a few nods to TWOK though. The biggest will be the dramatic fight between the Enterprise and the Reliant as they play cat and mouse in and out of the ocean like the TWOK Mutara Nebula scene.

Pure speculation of course… but lets see if I'm right… and who dies saving the ship this time around… that's going to be one helluva unexpected twist?

Interesting... not sure if I like the blue-gray color pallete the movie seems to be adopting this time around. Makes the the Trek universe look more like... Battlestar Galactica.

I think Cumberbatch is either Captain Garth of Izar from TOS or a totally new character. Eve might be Dehner, Ruth (an old girlfriend of Kirk's), or a new character as well.

Sure, if it is Khan then the only thing he will have in common with Khan 1.0 is the basic character setup. But the TWOKish 'Spock touches the transparent wall to connect with Kirk shot' reveals that even if we are not in remake mode we are nonetheless hip-deep in the fanwank swamp. Trek can be bolder than that and do better.

Some fans (not you) have a deep mindset when it comes to Trek, they can't think outside the box: Because it happened this way it must be so philosophy. I think the nods to the previous films are purely their to appease, to show that they happened, but albeit differently. Hope that makes sense.

Trailers can also be misleading, until we see the movie and fully understand the context these scenes are in, it's hard to make judgements about them

I agree that there are visual cues of both Wrath of Khan and the "Where no Man Has Gone Before" episode", but it's hard to say how much we can really read into it yet.

Perhaps the nine minute trailer will shed more light, but I have no interest in seeing that one. I feel like it's too much.

I understand your point but they have already made one poor attempt of copying TWOK/NEM. Is it really necessary to stick so fanatically to this one movie and not just copy patterns but even entire scenes (Nero crying Spock!, now Kirk putting his hand on a transparent wall)?
There is a difference between an inside joke (Cardassian sunrise), a homage (Nimoy) and a blunt copy&paste job (the above-mentioned stuff).
