If I had to guess, I would guess that around the same amount of time will have passed in their fictional universe as has passed in our real one. About three years, where Kirk has been in command. But, those three years were probably very routine, and this will be their first true test since Nero.

Cool

MMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmaybe...maybe not.

The gist of Orci's comment (it's probably somewhere in the Production News thread over at STL) was that Kirk and crew were still getting their collective feet wet in the next movie.

Initial synopsis being as vague as initial synopsis always tend to be the only thing we have is them being 'called back home'.

That could mean any amount of time after the end scene of the first film though I would suspect it probably wouldn't be years. I think Orci may have once made a comment somewhere implying it wouldn't be a very long time later.

Though were I to spin out some thoughts I might wonder if when whatever happens to 'the fleet' happens, if Pike will be killed in the process, thus providing a personal aspect for Kirk as Pike was the person who saw him for what he could be and not what he was at the time they met. Which would necessitate a funeral, which would necessitate formal grey uniforms for those in attendance.

It's probably Cupcake.

The bolded part is the very same comment I was referencing. It was maybe back around the Spring or early Summer this year.

Well, you know how it goes. They want to reveal stuff to their schedule otherwise some folks on some Trek sites would have them give every last syllable of the script away already and certainly before anyone sees it.

Very true, and I for one am planning on skipping all the info except for the normal trailers. I don't want to know too much before I see it. I may have to bow out of sites like this one for awhile, we'll see how that goes.

You see how much crap they show in trailers now? I would even avoid that!
