I too think John Logan was too much of a fan of ST to write for it. There was a hilarious annotated version of the Nemesis script floating around at the time of the movie's release, which (among other things) snarkingly highlighted instances of dialogue that seemed to have been processed through the Berman staff's editing filter. It portrays Logan as being very gullible and starry-eyed to be working with the ST team of that time. I also didn't like The Time Machine which he adapted. He may be too much a fan of sci-fi in general.

I used to have the annotated "Nemesis" saved on a disc...I think I still have it. The notations were supposedly done by Harlan Ellison. I read it about two weeks before the movie premiered, and had thought "This CAN'T be the actual script..." but as I saw the movie in the theatre, I realized, "Oh Great Ghu, that really WAS the script!!"

It hurts...But let us be greatful that Nemesis did not kill Star Trek. Speaking of "killing franchises", the film Licence to Kill was thought to have killed the 007 franchise. I read that people felt that the film made such a big drastic turn from the 007 of past and tried too hard to compare to actions films of the same year. Well, for those of you that thought Timothy Dalton killed the franchise, that is so not true.



In reality, the film series was undergoing trouble regarding a lawsuit between MGM and Eon Productions. It was a lawsuit that cost the series six years of being shelved until the suit was finally handled. During this time, Dalton was still signed on for the part but when production kept on being held back time after time, Dalton, understandably, left the part due to other interests. This is where Pierce Brosnan stept in the spot light.

Dalton is probably my second favorite Bond, right behind Daniel Craig.

Well, I finally got around to seeing Skyfall. I know this isn't exactly a timely post but I must say I really liked it a lot. I really like this Craig version of Bond. He's a dangerous dude.

something I really liked

Something I really liked about this movie, which it shares with the latest Batman movie, was the physical toll the job has taken on Bond. I like that it comes at a price, something earlier versions rarely showed.

Completely agree with ya', Cap'n. I think that's another reason why I feel this Bond is the best Bond ever.

It's action packed. It's an emotional roller coaster ride, and it's a glimpse into Bond's past that we never got to see before. This movie was meant to help us understand Bond. It may have demystified him a little bit, but it did so in a good way. I now find Bond a far more compelling character than ever before.

And in many respects, this movie really passed the torch.

I grew up with Pierce and will always like him the best, however this Bond really fits with the times and even though he is not my favorite, I know it's the Bond the public need to compare to other action films of the 2000s.

I've actually been going back and playing Goldeneye: Reloaded on PS3. It's a remake of the Ninteno 64 Goldeneye, but has Daniel Craig's voice and likeness replacing Pierce Brosnan's Bond. The story is being retold in the updated Craig fashion. It's pretty fun. Haven't tried the multiplayer aspect though....and the multiplayer was the big draw for the original Goldeneye, even though that multiplayer was limited to up to four players on a split screen.
