It probably is. However it seems like this is going to be the very first a lot of people even hear about this movie's existence. That makes me curious.
"Is it Khan"? Are the producers still trying to keep that part of it under the lid? Perhaps they've found a way, while still taking preliminary steps towards marketing the picture. |

That's easy...........the film. That way people will see it properly.
Which I kind of support. Recently there's been a trend for a series of online opportunities to view upcoming films to the point by the time a film hit's theatres I feel as if I've already sat through it. I think the last film did the same. Used to be you could go into a film and know very little beforehand.

But then the question is, to see or not see this preview. Have faith that if it's screening, it would be what JJ wants you to see? Or figure that no matter what's in those nine minutes, you're going to come away knowing too much? |

It does indeed depend what's in those 9 minutes.
Presumably material designed to show off the film, generate interest and buzz and yet also not reveal anything they don't wish to reveal by releasing 9 minutes of it. I would assume (maybe wrongly) that Abrams won't allow anything out he doesn't want out at this time but that depends whether he gets over-ridden by the studio wanting to make an impact.

Well then here's where I'm at.
I was probably already going to see The Hobbit within the first couple of days. And I was going to want to see it at 48fps, which probably means 3D whether I like it or not. And to increase my chances of getting both (I cynically doubt that non-3D screenings of the film would be easy to find at 48fps), I probably would have chosen IMAX at the Palms... which is the one 'actual' IMAX screen here in Vegas (there are no less than four other IMAX-registered auditoriums in town with Regal Cinemas, but I guarantee it won't be the same experience). So with all these things in mind, I see no reason to change my plans. I would think theatrical teasers/trailers/previews are generally fair game (unlike spoilers that accidentally leak on the internet). And after all... it's the f-king Hobbit. I break for nobody. |

I will be waiting for the traditional trailer. I'm nowhere near an IMAX, nor am I a fan of Lord of the Rings. I'm sure there will be a live blog on what's in this 9-minute preview (seems a tad excessive, but so be it) right at midnight with a shaky cam version on YouTube shortly thereafter.

Plus, the first nine minutes or so of the previous film were actually the best bit. The atmosphere, the music, the mystery, the sound effects, the film did not improve upon that section of the movie.

Sounds like the sneak preview (and thus the opening of the film) does not reveal too much and may be spoiler safe. Assuming you feel safe clicking the above link, that is. The article seems spoiler-free for the most part, however there are still broad details you wouldn't have known before. |

I would say that tantalises more than involves spoilers.
I'm intrigued by the view that some of the material appears to get to 'the heart' of what Star Trek is all about. Seems as if the prologue has quite a bit packed into it. I am on anticipation building mode completely now.
