Yeah, also looks like we're getting the origin story again based on the trailer. The Christ metaphor is a good one for a post-Patriotic Superman; making the Man of Steel the savior of the world instead of just the ultimate American citizen is certainly more in line with global consciousness.

Jesus Christ went to the end, he lost his life in order to gain it (like the few of his true followers like MLK or Mother Therese did). Of course superheroes can't because this would make the respective comic the last one but that's e.g. one reason I like Kirk's sacrificial death in GEN, ironically mostly criticized because it lacks glory and doesn't match the superhero pattern.
