People suffering from migraines are paying a hefty price to get Excedrin through online sites nearly seven months after the maker recalled the over-the-counter medication.

On Wednesday, a package of 50 two-tablet packs of Excedrin Extra Strength was going for $144.95 on Amazon, and a similar package of Excedrin Migraine was selling for $245.99. Before the recall, a package cost about $8.

On January 9th, 2012, Novartis Consumer Health, Inc. announced that it was voluntarily recalling all lots of select bottle packaging configurations of Excedrin products with expiry dates of December 20, 2014 or earlier as a precautionary measure because the products may contain stray tablets, capsules, or caplets from other Novartis products, or contain broken or chipped tablets. This recall was conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Wholesalers and retailers were instructed to stop distribution and return the affected product. Consumers that had Excedrin were instructed to stop using the product and contact the Novartis Consumer Relationship Center.
