Could Peter Weller's character in the new movie be Ron Tracey, Captain of Exeter?
Captain Ron Tracey and the Exeter were seen in the TOS episode" "The Omega Glory". Tracey was played Morgan Woodward (terrific actor) who gave a dynamic performance in that ep.

Possible but I doubt it as the big screen has always been the place for villains who twirl their mustaches where as the little screen has been the place for Starfleet officers having good intentions but doing horrible things. TMP, TVH or INS are the only movies who come to mind who do not fit this pattern.

Knowing how the writers like to spin things. If Weller's character is a notable Star Fleet Officer, who was portrayed as the "well meaning bad guy" in TOS, could be a good guy this time around.

Perhaps he also has something to do with Khan, kinda like his previous character in which he basically portrayed a follower of Green. I always liked the fictional historical background in which humankind went crazy with genetics, be it via redesigning itself genetically or via killing people for eugenic reasons, more than any direct Khan stuff. Khan should be a piece of this picture and not be the picture itself.
TOS did it masterfully with Green or Kodos, TNG sometimes used it, e.g. in the pilot, and the Bashir stuff in DS9 was also great. |
