Noticed on my cable guide that ST XI is going to be shown on the FX network.
HBO, SHO, MAX, and TMC didn't want to pay to show Abram's reboot so it's been downgraded to the commercial interruptions of basic cable. ![]()

Well, all the more reason to watch it on Netflix or buy the Blu-Ray. But, I can tell you aren't a fan of the film so you will pass on both options lol!

FX secured the rights to show it next not too long after it was released in theaters. HBO and MAX will eventually get around to showing it. SHO and TMC may be the last ones to ever show it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "past two years" - next week is the very first time the movie is being shown on broadcast cable, on FX. It's been absent since then.
The premium cable channels (HBO, SHO, etc) are first tier and pay better. FX is third tier. There is a silly rumor that EPIX paid $24 million for the flick, but no business model supports that.

The last time I'd heard of such a thing was for Terminator 2: Judgment Day. I think Showtime snagged up the immediate exclusive rights to play T2 after its theatrical run. T2 practically paid for itself overnight before it even ran in the theaters.

Goodness, Commodore - not seen you around for a long time.
I bought the flick on blu-ray so I don't care what network shows it anyway thus I can schedule it as I please. It's just TV and it's a three year old flick now anyway.

Yeah, it's been awhile. Kinda did the lurking thing for awhile and then found myself locked out. It wasn't until now that I figured out how to get back in.

FX called it an "extended edition". I did notice that some of the tiny bits I disliked in the theatrical release were pleasantly absent in this version. (Gladiator w/Russel Crowe did the same thing, making changes to the non-theatrical version.) But I've surprised myself in that I really did enjoy it. HOWEVER... eight minutes of movie followed by five minutes of commercials got annoying real fast. I would really like to see a commercial-free version on premium cable. I'm not a disc guy. I have about 100 DVDs that I rarely watched taking up space, so I haven't bothered to get into blu-ray. I'd much rather record it on my cable DVR w/o commercials.

One of the things I hate most about TV now is the commercials. SyFy is almost unwatchable at times because of them, especially when the same ones are repeated over and over during a two hour movie.
If I see a movie on TV I have on disc, I skip it and look for something else. Was so glad to finally have all of nuBSG on disc so I can watch it without commercial interruption.
