I can't decide to be 'excited' for this film or not.

I never really needed to know about the Space Jockey, and I became more interested in the film when it seemed to become less about him and something else.

Still, it'll be one to go and see come the time.

I'm pretty psyched.

FOX will make another Alien movie whether we want it or not. They've already proven they are not above making an installment based on a bloody video game premis (Alien Vs Predator). They are not above hiring bloody Paul Anderson or the bloody Strauss Brothers to direct, even after none other than Ridley Scott and James Cameron have expressed interest in possibly returning to the franchise. (I mean, come on... the director of Gladiator and/or the director of Titanic. What could be a more 'obvious' commercial draw?)

Now the Alien Vs Predator concept is exhausted. Not surprisingly, shippers for that crossover franchise protest that it just wasn't done right. To which I just laugh. The option for Ridley Scott to direct a sequel is exhausted (who wants to acknowledge that Alien Resurrection ever happened, anyway?). James Camerons 'alternative' sequel idea (pick up where Aliens left off) is exhausted (they missed that opportunity; Sigourney Weaver is to old now).

What's left? From where I stand, this really does look like the best direction at this point. A prequel or sequel that also encompasses something beyond the general premise.

Not to mention this is the first time Scott has directed sci-fi since Blade Runner. Sure, sometimes he misfires. But even when he does, I don't think he ever 'sucks'.

And FOX was going to do 'something' regardless of who they get. If it weren't Ridlet Scott, it would be... somebody else.
