I have to say, I'm against the idea of giving Engineering a new look. They rebooted this franchise, and this is the look of it. I think the time for those types of decisions has passed and they should now look to maintain some visual continuity between the films. The Star Trek "refit" cliche is one of those things best left in the past...IMO.

I don't care either way...they really did a good job of ruining the feel of Star Trek with the goofy sets. One set change isn't going alter that feeling...

I agree..........that's one late TOS movie era tradition that can get scrapped. And I'm pretty sure I'd feel that way even if I didn't not have a problem with the new interiors.

I'd rather have this new timeline keep 'it's' look and maintain it, for better or worse rather than change the ship every movie.

I'm sure he will. I'm talking about after he leaves (whenever that is).

To clarify my previous post, as long as JJ is directing the movies, he should 'probably' maintain production design continuity as much as possible.

However, I wouldn't consider it artistically reasonable or realistic to hold the 'next' director (whether he takes over the franchise after the second film or the fourth) under the same obligation.

Absolutely top notch performance. He’s the only one that acted like he actually researched his role before filming.

Visual effects…they were quite good…

End credit music…for obvious reasons…

Disliked:


The total disregard of established Star Trek history.
Abrams’ constant dissing of Star Trek fans before, during, and after production
The so-called alternate timeline cop-out
Characterizations (other than Bones) being “off”.
Musical score (some of it)
Nero and the Tattoomulans
Ridiculous coincidences
Early promotions
Sound effects (too “Star Wars-like” for my liking)
Way too many Star Wars References

Pretty much all the set designs

There are a thousand other things I could list, I just haven’t watched the movie in many moons and can’t remember them all. And I may update this post as more things pop into my head.

I actually watched the flick on super-duper Blu-Ray last night for the first time a while. Cracking flick!

I figure the longer that time comes closer and there's not even a hint of another director being sought by the studio.............which would become public knowledge pretty quickly............I tend to figure the more likely it is he'll come back.

The scheduling is lining up just fine for it to work out.

Whether we need to start seriously talking about who might make a third film (2015 just seems so far ahead....................) we probably won't know until we see how the sequel does, financially and critically. Gotta love Paramount for locking down that July 4th vicinity slot though. Smart thinking and a clear sign of confidence.
