The Romulans in the film seemed more in line with Troi's take on them than the TOS take. Troi said something to the effect of them being tender one minute and incredibly violent the next.

Same reasons the Klingons got ridges in TMP, to give them more of an alien appearance. Actually Unification treated the ridges as if they don't exist, otherwise Spock could have been recognized as Vulcan.
So I'd say that TNG treated the ridges as icing on the cake or to be more precise as crunching in the crisp.

That's a good point, and I do prefer the look of the bumpy headed Klingons to the fu-manchu type TOS klingons.

I tend not to mind ridges at all, whether they have them or not - but just be consistent!! Why do races in Trek keep gaining ridges!! It's like a galactic epidemic!!

It often seems as if there is just one lady for Scotty but then again there was this one episode where he flirted with a fellow officer. I guess if you get him off the technical manuals he will sooner or later feel the weight of his balls.
Thinking of it I don't wanna know what he did to the little critter during his "prison" time.
