Seriously. Are there any films which are universally accepted as being excellent in all ways? I'm not saying perfect, just well-recieved by every single person which has ever seen said film. I mean, even legendary blockbusters like STAR WARS get critiqued by someone, somwhere. My question is, is there a film out there which everyone likes? I don't know anymore, but if not, then I wish there was, so that everyone could agree on SOMETHING. I'm sick of all this arguing that members of the human race feel compelled to do.

To pick some older movies:
Lang's first two Mabuse movies Chaplin flicks like Modern Times, City Lights (the only heart-touching romantic movie I know which refrains from putting on rose-coloured glasses) or The Great Dictator Citizen Kane Seven Samurai Seventh Seal Seven (OK, that was a cheap pun and while in contrast tp the previous two movies Fincher's film is certainly not a classic I doubt that anybody dislikes it) |

You'll never get 100% of everyone liking every film. Search hard enough and you'll always, always find someone who didn't like it.
So, it depends on what sort of majority percentage you're willing to live with as being the closest you'll get to 'universal' acclaim and popularity. Or..............like whatever movies you like and don't sweat if either everyone else or no-one else likes it.

No offense Horatio, but there are two men who DON'T like Citizen Kane: Me and my dad.
And NCC, BTTF II? Seriously? That was the weakest film in the trilogy! ![]() I guess Kevin hit it closest to the mark. Thanks for your words of wisdom, my friend.
