I believe Muldaur had retired from acting by then. She retired after finishing her two season stint on L.A Law.

It was a shame Pulaski was ditched.
She was a far more interesting character than Dr Crusher. |

They should have written out Pulaski by having her fall down a turbolift shaft too.

Law represented the general end of her career in television etc. I liked Pulaski anyway - but she was too obviously a TOS throwback character type. This isn't bad in and of itself, but it meant she never fit in with the TNG style characters very well.
