It is not logical to take offense to words uttered by another person.
The spirit of Star Trek is the idea that humanity improves itself over time. So, in adhering to that idea, I believe that Uhura's words stand for themselves as proof that by Trek's 23rd century humanity will stop warring against itself and learn that everyone is an equal person. Male, Female, Caucasian, Vulcan, Romulan, Klingon, whatever.

You are trying to apply logic to people. People do not = logic.

You could be right, but I still feel it's sexist.

Speaking for me, I like my "eye candy" and therapists seprate...
Hehe...Well, I've actually never talked to a therapist before, so, I guess my
answer really wouldn't count because who knows...Maybe I would be
uncomfortable telling all my thoughts and secrets to someone sexier than
me.

Hmm...
Ever notice how the three white male captains get the finest ships in the fleet?
Ever notice how the black commander gets the ghetto space station and the pimped out ship?
Ever notice how the woman captain gets her crew lost on her very first mission?

It's still a funny quote to me.

Default Troi

I read the first few pages, but I don't have time to read the whole thread ( @ work ). So I'm sorry if I repeat someone else but, isn't everyone over looking the fact that Troi's half Betazoid and that that would explain the way they dressed her for the role. Well that and sex sells. Oh yeah and Chakotay's a wuss.

Eris-

Well you might have a point...

But could also look at this way...

We've only seen a small small fraction of Starfleet in any era really.

Kirk got a 20+ year old ship in the begining of TOS, hardly new.

Picard only got the Enterpise E after beign a Cpatain for 20+ years at that point, I am sure it meant as an honor to his service.

Sisko got the DS9 assigment because Starfleet figured his expereinces in space and at Utopia Planaita justified his presence at an unstable alli space station.

Janeway had circumstances beyond anyone's control happen when she was chasing Maquis.

Besides the female Capt. in Trek 4 kept ship and crew in tact near earth!

And, the female Captain of the Enterprise C handled her ship well despite it getting sucked into a time warp, she even died in battle.
