To be more exact, the General Lee was a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T with a 440 Magnum engine with a Hurst 4-speed transmission.

My brother-in-law had one (but not painted like the General Lee). It's the car I learned how to drive standard in. Sweet ride, used to take it on the NY State Thruway when my sister lived near Albany, lots of straight, open road (and easy to spot police)...I'd be doing 75 and not even out of 3rd gear...

The makers of the Dukes series wrecked a LOT of Chargers making that show...

Probably just because the remake series is fresher in people's minds.

I didn't like the new TV version though - what with the Transformers thing switching it between the Mustang and what I assume (but maybe wrong) was an F-150 or F-250 pick-up.
