I suppose Ezri didn't either - do you suppose Jadzia's memories were in there going 'Wait a sec, I turned this guy down already!'

Showing too much of the post-war fallout would have been interesting, perhaps. But at the same time, I think rather anti-climactic.

I think maybe even a glimpse or two even could have been fascinating.

We knew, for example what the war cost Cardassia - and the mirroring between it's fate and Bajor is likely not lost on anyone over the series run. Bajor starts in ruins and ends much more prosperous, Cardassia begins as an Empire and ends in ruins of it's own.

But I just feel that - apart from the Earth attack - what the impact on the Federation was in terms of it's power, it's influence and it's stability.

Would existing members have wanted to stay in the Federation? Would the Alliance seen towards the end have resulted in a morphing of the Federation into some new kind of 'Second Federation' after all - involving those major powers who had come together to combat the common enemy, or would they have split up and begun power grabs of their own.

Would the Federation/Alliance have offered help to the Cardassians? Invited them to join them?

So many elements that a series could explore.

Of course, like DS9 it probably wouldn't end up as a 'typical' Trek series if it went down that route.

It works well in the books. I suppose for on-screen there is a possibility to work that kind of deal into a new series for instance instead of Enterprise or a new movie instead of Nemesis. Possibly.

All I am saying is that the climax of DS9 focused so much on the war that it really was the logical point at which to finish. And while it might have worked, and would have been interesting, certainly -- the end of the war really was the end of Deep Space Nine as a show.

Yeah, I don't entirely disagree with that because the show did become the Dominion War show.

But then, I can also see the argument that show started about Bajor as well, and that did get a little sidelined by the time the War took central stage. So, those who maybe wanted the war wrapped up a little faster and then have the conclusion have something a little more to do with Bajor than just the Pah'Wraiths thing - I can see why they feel that a bit.
