Suppposedly the info for the message boards has been transferred over for the new boards at st.com, so the current ones are apparently dead boards walking.
I'm going to laugh when people find they may be several hundred posts lighter when they log into the new boards when they open...as the posts from July 1st on are not being retained...

The site itself is being reworked by the net design team at Funny Garbage out of New York City...a little worried because the samples you can see of their work show a lot of BIG and WOW kind of sites, IMHO what you don't need for startrek.com. Many people felt the site as it is should have been repaired/reworked/updated...maybe they did keep it on a lower key. We'll know fairly soon.
It's likely the new boards will be in the Prospero format like many other CBS boards...not my favorite. I've even gotten to like these vBulletin boards better than Prospero.

That team, dismissed in December 2007, was the group that started startrek.com, led by Marc Wade and Tim Gaskill, both Trek fans. After the Viacom reorganization and CBS started making staff cuts after acquiring Paramount Television and Paramount Digital Entertainment, the founding team was let go (including "Trek Life" artist David Reddick), and the site pretty much drifted, while the boards were put under the control of the CBS Sports division along with CBS Interactive.
The original team kept the site up to date and running right, such has not been the case since. The good thing is, CBS Consumer Products, who will be in charge of the new site, has directed that the person in charge of the site must be a Trek fan...
