Harriman really has to look to the past (Kirk) to overcome his indecision. McCoy also plays a huge part in the comic. The Enterprise-A is probably there to symbolize those things, I would think.

FWIW, I would like to see a (book) series on Captain April and have some intrigue/sci-fi, drama surrounding the time of the Enterprise's prime universe construction. I realize that he is not officially "canon", but there would be considerable room to develop him and Star Fleet's (Trek) history, along with Pike and crew's introduction and origins. A particularly creative mind and writing could make it quite interesting!
