Is Scifi a solely western invention?
I don't really think so, but couldn't say any eastern Scifi production. I wonder what Science Fiction is like in Russia, China, Korea, Japan...

I'm no expert but I know there are a LOT of Japanese SF works. And I've seen a couple of SF films from Korea and China. Russia is definitely into sci-fi and fantasy. The Polish/Ukranian author Stanislaw Lem was a prolific writer of science fiction and philosophy. If memory serves, it was Lem who coined the term robot. He wrote the novel Solaris which was filmed twice. First by the famous Soviet film maker Andrei Tarkovsky, then again as an American production by director Steven Sodorborgh and producer James Cameron! Both are excellent though I prefer the Sodorborgh/Cameron film to the Tarkovsky, which is paced even slower than 2001 (if you can believe that)!

When I read this post the first thing that popped up was DragonBall Z!! But then I also remember Power Rangers as well. Those are the only ones I know of. Also what comes from the UK as well.

Scifi in general is universal but ST and SW are American creations. Some idiot in some production office somewhere in hollywood seems to think Americans don't like scifi anymore which is dead wrong. Blame the lame stream media for that one, they ignore science fiction yet focus on political crap.
