Pretty big (LOL!), but like diamonds, in there raw, unrefined form, they are in massive structures, chunks, and blocks. Once they are mined, they look the way we're used to seeing them.

That redshirt didn't have a chance it was really cool the way he died. Do you like that scene?

But didn't most of us "know" that he was toast as soon as he stepped foot on the shuttle?

In Starfleet, Security personnel are given their red uniform with a next of kin form that must be filled out before wearing the outfit for the first time.
