What is wrong with District 9 ?
It is a fine pretend-to-be-a-B-movie science fiction flick with a lot of action in it and a relevant main theme.

Not that it matters for such technical categories as special effects.

Anyway, who cares, the Academy Awards are just one of zillion irrelevant prizes.

Star Trek: TMP was nominated for Original Score, Art Direction and Visual Effects.
Star Trek IV was nominated for Cinematography, Original Score, Sound Mixing and Sound Editing
Star Trek VI was nominated for Makeup and Sound Editing
First Contact was nominated for Makeup

The movie actually matches the franchise record of 4 nominations.

No Star Trek movie has ever won an oscar.

Loved D9 myself. Just got the dvd.

As far as the Academy Awards goes, I'm a movie geek. Watching the show a tradition for me.

I like to watch the opening of the show. They usually do something quite nifty for it, and after that I really don't pay a whole lot of attention until the Best Actor/Actress/Director/Picture awards are given.

I have little against the Oscars or film awards.

It's the industry patting itself on the back. Every Industry has the same. Every entertainment format has a multitude of them, every country has a multitude of them and they are thus equally irrelevant or important depending on what you want to think of them.

That's true, the way I see it is I like what I like and I don't really care if something wins awards or not, or is praised or panned by critics either for that matter. Plenty of "bad" movies that I enjoy
