I actually think that this plot element has tremendous potential. It allows them to continue showing how spock is coping, it gives us a reason to see Sarek, T'Pau, a young Tuvok, and any other vulcan favourites. It could feature a planetary scientist like Carol Marcus. It could feature piracy and/or territorial disputes.

The hijacking of a supply ship transporting Sarek, T'Pau, and Carol Marcus by Orions does have topical overtones with Somali pirates. It could involve detective work and a trip to a pirate hub, encounters with kilingon mercenaries and a con man named Harry Mudd who, in the teaser after the credits, sells some salvage to the klingons, marked 'Botany Bay.'

since hiatory has been change some what (I think why Prime Spock told Kirk about what really need to happen and then to himself that he must stay aboard the Enterprise) the writter can do almost any new stories.

Great ideas for what has happened to this "alternate universe" that remains somewhat the same, but yet somewhat different. I like the tie in to Marcus. The destruction of Vulcan could be the event that gives her the idea to create "Genesis" with the original intention of recreating a "new" virtually identical Vulcan to the old.

Indeed. The ramifications of Vulcan's destruction need to be addressed. And there's every good reason for it to be a significant element of the next movie. This could even be a step toward Star Treks XI - XII being a (loose) trilogy.
