The new Batman movies and Casino Royale seemed to have a more realistic flavor to them. The Tim Burton films and others were more "comic book" or "cartoonish" in nature. I like the fact that Kirk got the crap beat out of him and you actually saw the blood in the new film--not just a ripped shirt and a little trickle.
Casino Royale and it's sequal were the same way. When James Bond would fight, he didn't just fight unscathed, he was scared and bloody by the time he was through. I like that about these newer versions of old favorites.
The material needs to be smart to go along with the action and realism.
