Default Star Trek: The Early Years

http://www.myspace.com/startrektheearlyyears

A new fan production is underway that attempts to marriage both universes, they have a one minute teaser trailer up and images of the cast members, as well as uniforms and gadgets. It will be a web marketed production that focusses on the adventures of Captain Pike and crew. Just thought i'd pass along the world.

Just checked it out. That is actually a pretty good idea. I like it. And the "new" Enterprise is not bad looking. I just don't care much for those superwide nacelle struts. Other than that, not bad. The bridge could be better. It's way too dark and still looks too different from the bridge from "The Cage" for my tastes. But I do like the premise and I look forward to seeing more.

Fans tend to make better Star Trek, it's a well known fact.

Should be good for both fans of the new film and classic Trek.

(Yes, folks other people can play the parts, not just Pine & Quinto)

Give 'em a try...you might be surprised and it won't seem sooo long til the sequel.

I do agree! Just look at New Voyages. I've only seen a couple of their episodes, but the ones I've seen are fantastic. I know there are several others out there, but I just don't have the time to watch them all. Fans do make the best Trek!

I don't wanna talk bad about fanwork, but amateur work with virtually no budget can hardly become something very watchable. New Voyages / Phase II is an exception because they have money and talented people, among them professionals and Trek alumni, who work on the project.

Budget is the key isn't it. Funny how everything always comes back to how much money you have...or don't have.

Not always, writing a story is fairly inexpensive, you just need a few bucks for computer and electricity or paper and pencil.
But filmed material demands budget and expertise in more than just one area. You need decent writing, decent acting, decent sets, decent FX ...

It'll be interesting to see where this goes, but it already conflicts with what was established in the movie.

But it looks like a nice What if to blend the TOS established events with the new movie's style.

Interesting, fans definitely do create some interesting ideas, luckily mostly good ones rather than misfires. I like the Kelvinprise early model of the Enterprise before it's 'refit' to the new movie one.

How does it conoflict? It was never said in the movie that the Abramsprise was the first one. There may very well have been another before it. In fact, I would prefer to believe that before the Fuglyprise, there was indeed a TOS-style Constitution Class "Enterprise" that was launched from the San Francisco Fleet yards and commanded by Captain Robert April. There's nothing in the movie that contradicts that. So it's possible. And it was never said that Captain Pike wasn't captain of a previous ship named Enterprise. Nor was it said that there was no Robert April. I read the whole thing and I didn't see any conflicts. I'll check it again, though. Just to be sure. I could have missed something.
