Conversely, since so many fans seem to also want Khan rehashed directly that also gives a glimpse into the mindset of some of the fanbase and clearly all they wish is their favourite episodes remade with a big budget. Apparently some fans don't actually want fresh, new stories either.

The numbing laziness works both ways. And often comes from places other than the writers.

I wonder how you got that impression. To me it seems 99% of the fans are against using Khan.

I don't care about Khan fans who ask the writers again and again whether they redo Khan, but the very fact that the writers consider it is fairly strange. They just did RomuKhan and now they consider to do Khan again. Do they really think were are so dumb?

No, that's not quite true - Khan has been getting bandied about as a possibility ever since the new universe was revealed and it was not all from the writers.

Or they could be employing mis-direction while working on whatever it is they wind up doing. Considering something and ending up doing it is very different.

If we take a look at past films in the series there are mountains of ideas, intentions, characters and more that were actively considered but never came to pass in the final film.

Same will apply here - which might well mean Khan. But equally might well not.
