Random thoughts indeed. I can't figure out of this thread's actually abouy your 'comments and questions', or just grabbing things at random and complaining about them...

Spock said he would "steal back the black hole device", i.e. steal it from the Romulans, into their own hands. Nothing explicitly states that he knows it was stolen to begin with. Not until he's aboard the Vulcan ship and connected the dots, and then informs Nero of the confiscation of the "illegally obtained weapon".
