I simply prefer more realistic uniforms (and women can still look sexy and female in ordinary uniforms) and something like miniskirts as casual wear off-duty and I think that her outfit is a bit backwards, especially compared to the portrayal of women in the last years in Trek. Just take Janeway, she is in command and has to be tough but she is still allowed to maintain her feminine side, be it as "mother" of the ship or in holoromances.
Exactly, I have tried making this point for decades.

But in the military these days women have a choice of a skirt or pants in dress uniforms. Maybe Uhura had the same choice?
