Default Will Stargate Universe be Stargate's VOYAGER?

What do you think they are doing right/wrong? Have the writers learned from the lessons of Star Trek's Voyager? They seem to me to be going more Battlestar than Voyager. What do you think?

I'd say all they're going for towards Battlestar is a general look. The writing can't compare. I do see many more similarities towards Voyager, though Voyager is a far better show. I hope Universe picks up. The last episode was very promising, but so far it's the only moment in the show I've really enjoyed.

Flashforward is the best new show on TV IMO and I'm a huge stargate fan so it's kinda sad. Hopefully Universe will kick in gear next episode and finally, truly go somewhere.

If they want to go down the VOY route, I hope they learn some of the lessons from that show.

Yes, that's an example for them.

I think it is very different from voyager. For a start they can contact earth. it's much grittier and it is more about survival than seeking out new worlds and cultures. The Voyager crew didn't seem to mind being stranded after about the first 10 minutes of episode 2 whereas these guys aren't that keen on exploring the universe. I think they have definitely learned some lessons from voyager and are keeping it a bit more real.

In Universe, supply problems actually seem to exist after the first episode. That alone makes it a more believable show. It's only had six episodes, but I see a lot more promise in SGU than ever emerged from Voyager.

But at least with Voyager there was story, so far in these six episodes of Universe it's just a bunch of problem solving. A different crisis problem for each episode must be solved. It's going on episode seven and I'm still waiting for some story other than 'stuck on a ship billions of lyrs away, that barely works and a new problem to solve every week' to kick in.

Don't get me wrong, it's got potential, but nothing's happening and it's six episodes in.

The first few episodes were inevitably going to be about the crew trying to secure their lives in the face of adversity. But now that air, power, and water have been sorted out (I don't see an episode in the list called Food, so who knows if that'll come up :P), I think the main plot can start to ignite. The upcoming episode looks set to begin such things.

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping. The main plot needs to kick in and soon! I thought it was going to happen on 'light' but maybe you're right and it'll be this friday. Looks like a promising episode.

BTW, there may be a 'food' episode down the line somewhere!
