I think it rather elegantly covers all possible POV's.

You can consider it a total reboot or you can accept that while it creates a new universe free of any limitations, it couldn't have happened without the original.

And that original still exists.

I think it covers all bases and potential viewpoints allowing everyone to decide for themselves.

Like several others, I agree with this approximately 100%

The 'new' Trek exists both within, and outside original continuity; this new timeline was born out of the original, but the writers now basically have carte blanche to create new tales based around the original characters.
