No, with this half-reboot they freed themselves from the shackles of continuity and yet can still use whatever they like from previous Trek. Furthermore it is a humble way to approach the franchise, they don't pretend that nothing before their movie existed.

I would have rathered them go with the back to the future style of time traveling altered timeline rather than the multiple universe thing that they did, but since they glossed over that in the film it's really a nonfactor.
