They could've easily moved into the Earth/Romulan War or the events that lead to the relations between the Federation and the Klingons during the 23rd century and all while doing so, showed how the Federation came to be. But waiting four seasons to do so is what killed the show because IMO that is the purpose of Enterprise, to show how Star Trek came to be. If they were going to just have a new crew take over the franchise why not move further into the future, out of TNG era and move forward? It's what Trek has always done, save the new movie. And even it fulfilled the purpose of a prequel, showed how things came to be, even if it was in an alternate universe.
I agree, but UPN was out to get this show canceled long before it was. I don't think Sci-Fi could have handled the costs of a show like ENT. You know Paramount would have never let them produce it under their flag like Stargate, ect.

I think UPN folding and the very early stages of talking about this film (Yes it was talked about back in 2004) was the death blow for this fine show.

I think this show was good from the start. Was every episode a winner? Heck no! No Trek show ever has all winners for episodes.

Was it "fanwanky?" Yes, but again all the Trek shows and movies have been to a certain degree. ENT had a hard time dancing aroudn so much established stuff in Trek while trying to be it's own show. Overall it did good, there was no way it would ever be perfect.

ENT overall worked.
