From what we've heard it seems likely that Pine is going to play Kirk as a character who could evolve into the great Star Fleet Captain, but is not, when we first meet him, that person, probably more the geeky serious young man occassionally referred to in the show. I bet Abrams would love to go back and thank the writers for setting Kirk up as "serious" and "intellectual" and someone who needed to have women aimed at him (and, who would get very close to marrying a woman....).
