Default Crazy Idea

Hey guys, my wife and I just watched Smokey and the Bandit again, and we got to thinking...since Hollywood loves to do remakes, why not a remake of S&B. We've come up with a few ideas for some of the principal actors:

Bandit- Matthew McConaghey
Sherrif Justice- Burt Reynolds(keeping it in the family) or Billy Bob Thornton
Jerry Reid's Part- Haven't come up with one.
Sally Field's Part- Erica Durance

What do you guys think?

I really loved Smokey and the Bandit as a kid. I don't think a remake should be made. Somehow it would probably end up stupid and NOT do the original justice. Dukes of Hazzard was screwed over royally and I'd hate to see the same happen to Smokey.

I don't think there is much justice to be harmed with that era Burt Reynolds. I loved that movie as a kid as well but it really has not aged very well at all.

Nothing Oscar worthy but still a fun movie to watch although I don't think a remake would have the same success. The CB/Trucker craze is long gone as is the problem of transporting Coors across state lines. A major plot rewrite would likely drive away old fans and with no cult status for the truckers there might not be enough interest to bring in new ones.

The real question is, what kind of car do you use. Do you retain the 70's Trans-Am, or do you go with some modern car? I don't think it would be right without the Trans-Am.

What about the CB's and 18 wheelers? What about the fact that Coors beer is now LEGAL in every state.
