Or Dax - she has an affair with McCoy so that might be fun.
Guinan - maybe, maybe not. I think it would still qualify as an unbelievable coincidence that would seem forced, especially since Picard & his crew already managed to run into her in late-19th Century San Francisco (small galaxy, ain't it?)

Otherwise, I agree with . . .

Speaking of which... was it ever established that Dax of that time was a woman? Maybe McCoy swung both ways?
Hey, yeah - there a male alien character named "Dax" in STVI. He was the one they accused of killing Chang until the boots "didn't fit" his alien feet and . . .

OK, now I'm gonna' have to purge my mind of the image of McCoy having "an affair" with that alien guy. Thanks, people!

Slightly off subject, but... if this new timeline was the same until the arrival of the Narada, then there is a head belonging to Data in a SanFrancisco mine shaft that was left there in the late 1800's that now might or might not have somewhere/someone to be returned/attached to!
What then happens to Data's head if it is still found? Guinan would still be a logical connection to the story of the head, so she may be around trying to figure out what to do about it since she may "know" that there is something different about the new timeline. (Just a thought)

Sorry to have to disappoint you but yes, it was established that one of Dax previous hosts, Emony Dax, was a female gymnast who met McCoy on Earth, at the university of Mississipi, before he became a doctor. We met her (channelled through Leeta) in DS9 episode "Facets". http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Emony_Dax
We've never even seen the actual Emony in physical form.

The good thing about having a Dax in the movie is that they could cast just about anyone.

re: cameos by main TNG cast? No.

The only characters from later series I could see in the movies would perhaps be some of the alien recurring characters/guest stars, from one of the long-living races that could convincingly be already born in the 23rd century.

I did smile at the suggestions of things like Guinan, Picard family wine, and Dax. But no, I think TNG should stay primarily on its own.
