I think im gonna upgrade the computer, or get a new one or a netbook. The choice is- Xbox 360 or netbook? My netbook would be better, because the 360 will probably break down! I just installed Thunderbird Email From Mozilla. Very similar to outlook express.

Congrats Tomcat! I love my laptop! Please beware about the overheating thing. I received a "beanbag" type tray to sit in my lap while using it. I then went to Radio Shack and for 20 bucks I got a fan that is just for lap tops. It hooks directly into the laptop and keeps the puter soooooo cool. It will last a lot longer if you keep it cool.

Depends on what you spend most of your time doing. Computer or gaming? Yep be prepared for hardware failures with the Xbox. One of the first problems (pre 360) was that it overheated too much and killed equipment. Dont spend alot of money on computer upgrades. It wont be long before you get a new one anyways and you will get much much more for your money that way.
However, if you do insist on an Xbox may I suggest this..... ![]() |

ISO. If you mean transferring data between replaced operating systems no. Its a complete wipe unless the data is backed up on another drive. In the case of a laptop it would usually be a USB drive. But based on the age of the computer it might not have a port. Or if it does its only USB-1.
If you want to try it download the ISO, burn the image onto a CD, and boot from the CD drive. That way you can test Linux out without touching your Windows install. Again I recommend if you are going to get your new laptop anytime soon (within the next few months) dont remove W2K. Stick with it until you upgrade. Since you mentioned Windows 7 it should be available soon on the Dell example that I posted the link to. Get that all up and running as your main computer and then you can do whatever you want to the older laptop to fool around with. Linux can have a fairly significant learning curve. |
