Yes but that isnt saying much. Its like saying mud is superior to mold.

But I guess I am biased because I saw Macross before Robotech and not the other way around. So from the very beginning Robotech was a comparison, never an original. However, I didnt see Southern Cross or Mospeda first.

I like Macross less and I know that's a bias but I have a love for the American interpretations of conflicts anyway.

Southern Cross was okay...
But the Invid Invasion was good.

Many fans of the original Macross series have been hating on anything Robotech-related since 1985. On some anime sites, it's nothing short of universal condemnation for Robotech, specially since Harmony Gold was originally given the exclusive North American rights to Macross--which prevents other companies from releasing subsequent Macross spinoffs in the U.S. unless Harmony Gold surrenders those rights--and therefore the exclusive rights to Robotech--in the process (which simply ain't gonna happen).

As a result of the legal quagmire around Macross, Harmony Gold had to severely redesign characters like Rick Hunter for The Shadow Chronicles so that he looks less like his original Japanese counterpart, Hikaru Ichijo...

But aside from all that, Robotech and Super Dimension Fortress Macross are really two shows that both stand on their own. Its unavoidable for many to want to compare them, but it'll always be a case of "I liked the one I saw first" in most instances...

I didn't get macross....
I liked Macross Pluss but those movies they put out all seemed ...so stupid.
They captilized on a constant repetive template of music and love triangles and SDF Macross. They were down right borning and my friends that didn't even see Robotech thought the same so it wasn't just me but perhaps it a Japanesse thing.
