Berengarius 7 forgive me for getting all girl crushy on you...but that was really well said. To be honest, I thought "20 years old" was light...

Do the math. Let's pretend that when Spock stepped on board, the Enterprise was brand spanking new...and, to make it easy for the math disabled, let's ignore any thoughts of Captain April.

Spock served under Pike for 11+ years.

Then he served under Kirk for 5 years.

Then, he went to Gol....

Then there was a big weird space thingy that called to him so he came back...let's give that 1 year to be conservative...I'm guessing if it was a month long retreat, his return wouldn't have generated so much interest.

Already, we're at 17+ years.

Then, there was the whole "Khan/Genesis/Coming back to life/Saving the world yet again thing...give that another year.

We're at 18+ years.

How, exactly, is it hard to imagine that the ship is 20 years old when Star Fleet calls for it to be decomissioned?

20 years is not a long life for a ship...

Look at Klingon Ships, those things are around for a couple of generations.

The Admiralty is going to scrap her Sayquist! I could almost cry. So many years served, so many people served on her. So many times she was called to the rescue of our soldiers and diplomats overseas, not to mention her record of rendering humanitarian aid. I wish i could see that majestic vessel one more time as she was when she was pulling alongside my oiler, that massive prow slicing through the waves, the theme to "Star Trek The Motion Picture" blaring over her speakers. I'd like to salute her one more time before those damned vultures at the scrapyards get at her. It's a sorry end for a vessel that served so brilliantly and so well.

Yes, unfortunately. I saw an interview on some cable station with some hotshot Admiral talking very unsympathetically about turning her into razor blades. It makes me sick. But this isn't a naval forum, so i'll leave it at that, i don't want to get in trouble.

That's sad sad news. That ship has a long rich history surviving world war two basicly a hero against impossible odds.
And featured in one Star Trek Fillm...I will remeber Enterprise. There not even commisioning a new one.

Not only that, but she was the very first nuclear surface warship. The original nuclear "wessel". Heck, she starred in Star Trek IV!
