STAR TREK: THE FALL OF THE FEDERATION

Part I.

On a brief personal leave, Spock journeys to the remnants of Vulcan, where he psychically assumes contact with his mother, Amanda. Slowly, he realizes that the destruction of Vulcan was an illusion -- a mere interdimensional artifact created by the displacement of Vulcan behind a supernatural cloak.

Ever-logical, Spock refuses to believe this, until he finds himself transported back to Vulcan, where he meets his mother, who is still alive.

Meanwhile, on Starbase 12, Kirk is concerned when Spock fails to report for duty. Kirk successfully lobbies for a mission to follow Spock's path, but the Enterprise arrives at the Vulcan system, Spock is nowhere to be found.

On Vulcan, Amanda explains to Spock that he is caught between dimensions, that he can choose to remain on Vulcan with her, or return to his own dimension. Spock cannot decide.

On board the Enterprise, Uhura tells Kirk that he must focus his energies on finding Spock, but Kirk suddenly decides to call off the search, as the Enterprise has detected no sign of Spock within five parsecs. As the Enterprise leaves, Uhura hijacks a shuttle to continue the search. Kirk inexplicably lets her go, as Bones becomes suspicous of Kirk's behavior.

Starfleet orders Kirk back to Starbase to await further instructions, but Kirk disobeys, and heads to the Andorian system instead. Bones now attempts to relieve Kirk of command, but Kirk pre-emptively relieves Bones of duty on trumped-up medical charges. Powerless to stop him, Sulu and Chekov become pawns in Kirk's bizarre plan.

Spock meditates on his own future, thinking that there must be a way to be in the presence of his mother and yet return to his path in life at the same time.

No, it's an alternate universe where everything is different. For instance, Vulcan is gone so all events that took place on Vulcan in the prime universe will now not happen here as before. Vulcan scientists are gone and people who made a difference in some way in the prime universe are gone so events have changed.

Yeah!! My thoughts exactly. It's new it's fresh. Go someplace different.

They should do new stories while reflecting elements of the old. So introducing Carol Marcus is good, since the story has never been told even though it was referred to in events that we have seen. Introducing Khan is bad because that story has already been told.

V'ger is a more difficult question. A major threat to Earth is hard to ignore. If they really feel the need to retell it then it should be told in a completely different way with V'ger being the background story and some other conflict being the foreground. And this time - don't kill Ilia!

The loss of Vulcan scientists should hold the Federation back a bit but no doubt they will overlook that and improve on the technology that we see in TNG 80+ years in the future... sigh.

Based on how long it takes to make a movie, this run of 3-4 movies will be done before Vger even gets close.

V-ger and Khan and a whole host of TOS trek Characters and event can be eliminated entirely. Those that have been never need to be revisited!!!!!

Kirk: "At least we dont have to fight off that silly NASA probe like we did between the end of the last movie and the beginning of this one. What were those NASA idiots thinking."
Spock: "Quite true captain. I'm sure it would have made a great movie if the movie studios chose to make it. Unfortunately all we can do is recount it all around a camp fire."
Kirk: "Yea. Vger destroying all 1000 of those Klingon ships sure would have made for some great movie SFX moments."
Spock: "Enemy ships approaching captain."
Kirk: "Set phasers on 'roast'."
