Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian held well, off 19 percent to $7.8 million for $156.5 million in 31 days, but Star Trek saw the smallest decline of all nationwide releases. In fact, the sci-fi adventure had a one percent uptick to $5.5 million, and it can now lay claim to the biggest Star Trek movie adjusted for ticket price inflation. With $240.3 million in 45 days, it edged past Star Trek: The Motion Picture on that front, though it may still have a ways to go in terms of attendance: around $22.3 million of the new Trek's total comes from IMAX runs, which typically cost a few bucks more than regular shows. |

This past weekend was probably only the last weekend for smaller theaters needing the screens for new releases.
I think ST is still good for at least two more weekends in some of the larger theaters. They are not going to pull a movie that just made $4.7 million dollars last weekend! That is more than some films make in their debut weekend. |

WOW! ST had a nice pop on Sunday. Pretty cool. Actually it did do pretty well this weekend.

I just did a quick inventory of the local theaters and ST is still showing on most. However, Wolverine has hit the "Cheap Seats" already. ST is getting less showings but hasn't left the bigger theaters just yet in my area.

I'm going to try my best to take my sister to the movie, she's wanting to see it. This will be a great time to do it.

For those too young to remember the experience back in 1982, it's nice to share the magic again with someone new. It creates a nice time capsule of nostalgia. With Nimoy in this film and the more than overt homages to The Wrath of Khan in the way of Kirk and Spock's friendship, the continued box office returns don't lie. For me, a ''first generation'' fan, this movie does what none of the others could do--even the original cast movies--it invited new friends.
I reflected my personal sentiments on this much more elaborately in two other threads I started on this forum, so I won't repeat myself, but for those who missed them or are interested, they are here: Passing the Torch (A Message of Optimism from a ''First Generation'' fan) Summer of 1982: A Time Capsule |

I took my sister, her boyfriend, and my brother (all from out of state - I was visiting this past week) to see it twice while I was there. Saw it for the eighth and probably last time last night - can't wait until it's released!!
