Eventually I was able to get us to Windows Live Mail (without a Live account for my parents) and it's much like the Outlook Express they had before.
They tried to make Windows Mail try to be Like outlook express, but left out the features that made it work!

Windows mail and Outlook Express are why I don't use the 'built ins' that come with the computer...I like to make the screen look different, and those won't let me. Yahoo lets me pick what colors I see...so I can make it so I know exactly what I'm looking at. Same thing with FireFox.

Could you elaborate? I know that with Live Mail it's easy to change the color of the window, but I have a feeling that's not what you're talking about.

I had Hotmail back before Microsoft bought it.

It was much simpler then, and did not have so much gunk on it that it took multiple clicks to just check your mail.

Of course, just about every web based email account is covered in ads, and other worthless info.
